Funny thing?

I have been having trouble for a while navigating through web pages, this site being the worst for some reason. Today it got to the point where any page I clicked on froze the computer and I had to do a Ctrl+Alt+Del to get going again.

In the end I got so pissed-off I installed Firefox and what a difference - not only no more freezing but browsing is also quicker. I recon IE8 was the problem but don’t know why. Only problem I can see at the moment is no spell checker, but I'm still looking.
 
Tools/Options/Advanced/General

Check the box labeled 'Check My Spelling as I Type'.
 
I had the same problem on a computer that had the Windows Vista operating system, I switched to Fire Fox and all those problems went away, My Laptop has Windows 7, and I have no trouble at all using Explorer. Dont know why though
 
As your typing do any of the misspelled words show underlined in red?

If yes, right click on that word and get suggested spellings. If no, did you go back and make sure the setting was saved?
 
Now install the Firefox add on called no script. Wonderful little add on that allows you to pick and choose which scripts a page will be allowed to run. Keeps your machine a little safer once you learn how to use it, and it can help with page load speeds.

No underlining and the 'Options' box doesnt have a 'Save' button, can only assume its automatically saved. I guess you are using Firefox, does the spell checker work with this site?

Edit: Just found that the en-GB version doesnt have an English directory as standard, have now got an add-on that has - so all OK, thanks for your help.


Installed - will be interested to see how it works.

So, the GB version does not have an English directory as standard. Boy, I can sure think of a couple of non-PC replies to that one. Kind of sad actually.

Oh, ok, just checked the Mozilla site and found this:

Not all locales come with a dictionary installed due to licensing reasons.

And to think, I was about to make some rather rude multicultural comment. Glad you got everything sorted.
