Funeral - Allan (Binnsy) Binns

The clock seems to be the favoured ' memorial ' ... is that what you blokes feel ? Guess when the Unit Manager mentioned their old lounge it took me back to my own times spent in waiting rooms of palliative and intensive care units. Guess it depends on who wishes to contribute and dollars involved at the end of the day. I have an old old mate that has his own furniture manufacturing buisness i could have a chat with ... or go see the bloke that did the plaques for RDU , he had trophies made out of clocks on display in his shop. You blokes just let me know.
 
There's no huge rush is there TC? Suggest you wait to see how much you have and what can be done. I like the idea of giving the unit what it says will be most appreciated and needed. We could also see what his family would like.

No .. no rush at all. Sarah said she'd be happy to leave it to us if we wanted to do anything in regards to assistance to the Unit. Just remember how much i would have appreciated a three seater lounge to crash out on instead of trying to get some shut-eye in an uncomfortable armchair ... probably just 'my stuff' mate.
 
 

Mate, I hear ya...havin' a kip in those arm chairs isnt much chop. As a supporter of Peter Mac down here in Melb I know how much the staff appreciate making things comfy for the families and I'd have to agree that if possible would be nice to be able to give them something like this.

Dont want to sound like a cop out brother but I'm behind ya on both. I think of it like this... if i knew any of you were crook and family were there with you, i couldnt sleep knowing that your loved ones were sleeping on a chair as they supported you. Id bend over backwards to try and get them comfy for a bit of rest so they could be there for you. As far as im concerned, i'm happy to chip in for both.

I didn't know Binnsy personally,
but like with most of ya'll,
I do feel like I know you and have built
if not friendships, at least relationships
through our common interests and the sites.
Having said that, how do ya'll feel about a "memorial patch"
like we did for Hellfire?
Not a common rectangle black and white "In memory of" patch,
but one that we could look at and think of our lost friend.
in doing Hellfire's memorial patch, I took his tattoo
and had a patch made of it.
We could do the same with Binnsy's if ya'll want it
and the family is alright with it.
We may not get to see the clock or lounge chairs in person,
but if we get a patch made, he'll always be with us, and in the wind.
Just a thought, something I could do.
If one of ya'll could ask his daughter what she thinks of the idea,
and if ya'll like the idea, I'll get on it.
If the daughter says no, then it's no.
but a memorial patch with Binnsy's tattoo on it,
would be one I'd be proud to wear.

Man ... that photo reminds me just how fit and healthy Binnsy was when we first met ... i'm not a patch wearer so i'll leave it to others to comment on your offer Skip.
 
I don't wear them but I have them. I'd take some if there's enough interest.

As for what to do with any money collected, I'm leaning towards a couple of sofas if there's enough to do that. A plaque could say how a why it was there. But happy to go with either.
 
Same here, I think we should do both and happy to chip in when time comes, been there done that Armchairs are not for sleeping
 
Confident $1200 will get the Logan Palliative Care Unit the two three seater lounges and the clock they had on their 'wish list' ... mate of mine that has offered to make the lounges promises they will be nearly as comfortable as a bed . Black man-made suede covering .. $500 each

Binnsy's daughter Sarah said " Dad would be happy knowing we are all joining together to help others going through difficult times"

What's left over can go towards a Memorial Plaque to go up on the wall of the Unit where Binnsy's battle finally ended.
