My guess is that he was lightly on the front brake and momentarily distracted. When he hit the speed bump he clamped down on the front brake and Shamwow... I wonder if his bike had ABS and if so would it have made a difference...
How embarrassing...............yesterday at work i was doing about 5 klm and hour, thought i'd be smart and go between the speed bump and spoon drain , front tire hit spoon drain and near dropped it..........

Ouch. That's terrifying. I am going to be very suspicious around speed-bumps now, especially after replacing the brakes recently - the fronts work like a vice.
I think that depends what his rear wheel was doing at the time? If he had also clamped down on his rear brake and the back wheel stopped altogether, I don't know if ABS wouldn't just assume that the front wheel was fine and it was the back wheel that was sliding and needed pumping?
