Saw a fascinating repeat airing of an interview with him, first aired in September 2017. He has been the director since 2009 (obviously skilled at navigating Washington politics).

I write here because he is an active motorcycle rider, having a Harley Davidson Road King Classic which he rides to work "often" he said.

His work at NIH is mostly about attacking causes of illness and death, and an obvious setup question after discussing personal markers for health threats and ways to live one's life differently to interfere with those negative factors ("First, if you want to live longer, don't smoke.") the interviewer asks, "And you ride a motorcycle. Is that safe ?"

Collins' response, "No." He adds, "It gives me a wonderful perspective on life I don't find any other way."
