Hi all,

I\´ve just taken delivery of a new 09 R3, love it! As we all know, 1st service is due at 800 ks and my dealer is quoting me a mind blowing $500 to carry out what amounts to an oil and oil filter change. Question is, will I void warranty if I do this myself? Am willing to pay for future services but cant see why I should fork our another 500 bucks on top of my 22 grand for oil and a filter, any guidance will be most welcome.

1st service is free in the UK, you only pay for the consumables and costs about £50.

You should shame your 'stealer'.....

Not sure what the law is in Oz but, in the UK, as long as the vehicle is serviced with quality/approved service items (OEM quality) to the schedule as set by the manufacturer, by a suitably qualified company (not necessarily a 'manufacturer-linked' business), the warranty will not be affected

The same service from a Triumph dealer in UK cost me £59 last month (cost of oil plus fliter......labour was free).

Heard you blokes down under were not fond of the local dealers; now I know why!!

`mine has cost me bout 350.00 for the first service i let them do the first one so they can make sure everything is ok after that i change my oil and filter
 
Good god!

800 is 1 day after purchase... 1 day after I buy it, that $500 is going somewhere other than oil and a filter.
 
Isn't there a check of the valve lash? At the very least you want someone competent with a wrench to go over all the nuts and bolts, otherwise some of the shiny bits fall off while you are motoring about.
 
Yeah my first service at 800ks was about the $350 mark, I think your dealer is having a lend of you to charge you $500, I took mine to the dealer at that tiime to also have some warranty matters attended to.

You are under no compulsion to use a Triumph dealer, you are able to take it to any competant mechanic hopefully some one you have had good dealings with in the past with. The only time it needs to go to a Triumph dealer is to have warranty issues fixed.

Appears the UK has the edge on this one. Guess my best bet is to start ringing around authorised bikie outlets, beginning with my previous fella who serviced me old yammie. Will keep you posted! In meantime, any tips on running these beautys in! Think I might have got a little over excited at the weekend and ridden at "slightly" excessive speeds, am assuming we can get away with the odd grin inducing experience?

Are you dead sure about that?

You don't want to risk the dealer using the most convinient excuse like "you didn't use approved dealer" for refusing to repair/fix something after the event

Suggest you shop around but try & stick with a Triumph dealership if possible.
 
****, I just got my 10,000 mile service and it was $460 about $100 for parts, the rest labor...
