These bolts are infamous for being super weak. I've seen posts from members who meticulously torqued them into place and still had it snap. Torque wrenches are a good thing though to avoid stripped bolts.
Take the bolt with you (or its remnants) and hit up a hardware store? If you can find something with the right threads and add a rubber gasket or something you might be able to Macgyver up something that will hold until you can get the proper part. Maybe. Ideally that bolt should be magnetic to catch metal filings, so you probably do need the real deal eventually.

http://www.drainplugmagnets.com/ fit. If so, let me know which size so I can get one.
Been meaning to replace my bolt(s) with proper magnets but hasn't been the highest priority.
