Day 3 Memories - 1 of 3

Everyone woke up to rain unfortunately Saturday morning and no matter how many sources of weather info we used it did not look good for todays ride. We all ate breakfast at the holiday and decided to postpone the ride until 11:00am to see if there was a break in the weather. A few of us visited Soco Fall about 7 miles from the motel while we waited for our 11:00am departure time.

We returned to the holiday to wait out the weather. 11:00am and the weather had not improved and the forecast was 100% chance of rain. Most everyone decided to hangout a pay the wheels through time museum a visit.

Several Capitan’s decided it’s just rain so what the heck let’s ride. So we planned a route that was about a 100 mile loop a little closer to MV and 6 bikes and 7 people saddled up and began our journey. (Tdragger, Scot in Exile, Watsonian, Doug AKA ‘Yankee”, Baggage1, Myself and Katie)

Day 3 Memories - 2 of 3

We headed towards Waynesville to get fuel and pickup our first road 215 on our way to our first waterfall fall of the day. The road was twisty, wet and lots of leaves you could certainly tell fall had arrived.

We departed from the falls and continued towards the blue ridge parkway on 215 we turned on the parkway still drizzling rain and very foggy. We suffered through the visibility problems and arrived at our next stop Graveyard fields and second falls where a couple of us took a short .5 mile hike down to get a closer look at the falls.

Day 3 Memories - 3 of 3

By this time the rain had let up and we continued on the foggy Blue Ridge Parkway to 276 where we went south approx 12 mile for our next stop Sliding Rock Falls this is a state park area where you can on good day actually slide down the falls. When we arrived the park was closed and the gate locked. We decided we came this far in the rain and fog we should make the best of it. A few of us ducked under the gate while the others waited at the bikes. The falls were very active, it had been raining for over a week in the area and there were flash flood warnings for the area. We decided to get some better pictures and walked down to the observation deck. This is where things got interesting I made the mistake of stating if anyone wanted to strip down to there boxers and go for a slide I was game. (Thinking no one in there right mind would even consider. It was cold, rainy and there was flash flood watch) Well I was wrong Scot in exile unzips his jacket and pulls out a towel and starts to undress. So now I am faced with a decision either surrender my manhood and catch crap the rest of the weekend or join Scot in exile in the freezing water. You can watch the video below to find out my decision.

Things I learned from this experience.

1) Never challenge a Scotsman “they are crazy”
2) Close you mouth when going under water.
3) The Boxers vs. Briefs question is still unanswered.
4) I also learned a new word “turtling” **** that water was cold. See Definition number 3 http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=turtling

We got dressed went back to the bikes and proceeded south on 276 to looking glass falls the last scheduled stop of the day.

We turned around and headed north towards Waynesville approx 40 miles. Another great twisty road down hill most of the way. About 15 miles from Waynesville a monsoon came and water was starting to come over the road frequently and there was no end in site we toughed it out to Waynesville were some of us took shelter to clean glasses and other continued on to Maggie valley another 10 miles. We returned to the motel and attempted to dry out before dinner “my boots took 5 days to dry”

Special thanks to Tdragger, Scot in Exile, Watsonian, Doug AKA ‘Yankee”, Baggage1, and beautiful wife Katie for this memorable ride. Its one I will never forget.

Our host decided to move the dinner and party inside to get every one out of the weather. We ate, partied and turned in relativity early (or at least some of us did) to prepare for a full day of riding on Sunday.
