Fall '09- Rocket launch - Maggie Valley

Hey all, I made it back yesterday @3pm local. 769mi the first day, 679mi the second and a "lazy" 457mi to finish up on Wed. And it wasn't quite over 100 degrees when I rolled back into town - bonus!

I had no rain the entire way home. But on Wed I had 50-60mph gusting winds to contend with from Moriarity to Heber(about 4-5 hours worth). Takes a lot out of ya! I'd say that it was my most difficult day even though it was the shortest. It did make passing the semi's @ 80mph on a curve interesting!

Stats for my trip:
Total distance: 4,469 miles.
Max speed: 100mph. (Shhh-don't tell)
Moving time: 66hr 27min.
Moving average speed: 67.2

Sunshine, thanks for covering my ass (with anti-Monkey Butt powder).:D

I'M so sorry I failed to give greatest kudo's to Inspector Gadget, from fienix arizoana. Mister Iron Butt. This may be worth a promotion:D I had no idea you could get that much crap on handle bars.

Hey, some of that crap is actually useful! :p

I enjoyed the trip. It was great to meet everyone. If you plan a trip for 2011, I'll try to schedule my sabbatical to coincide with it. I want to come back and ride with you all again. But it is quite a few miles!

I had a blast!

Looking forward to all the pictures,

Gene

Gene, I know what you mean about those winds and especially passing the trucks on curves with the wind gusts involved. Not fun at all. Especially when their trailers started moving to your occupied lane.

Day 2 - Part 1

Friday morning several captains that arrived on Thursday departed for our daily adventure after a hardy breakfast. We headed towards hot spring on 209 aka the rattler. We made a quick stop at Fergusons supply for souvenirs, hydration and bio break for those of us over 40.

The rattler was not enough for the more youthful jdukes pizza partner decided to stop for a quick climb before we arrived at Hot springs.

We arrived at hot springs a little early and decided to skip lunch a continue on our journey in hopes that we would avoid the wet weather.

We headed down 25 towards Asheville to pick up the blueridge parkway and ran into the jolly green giant on a motorcycle going through town.

Day 2 - Part 2

After a boring ride through Asheville traffic we reached the Blue Ridge Parkway for our scenic ride back to base camp. The road was great, the weather was holding out, leaves were changing and the scenery was beautiful.

About 20 miles away from base camp we ran into a little rain Approx 10 minutes tops and of course no trip is complete without at least 1 mishap ours happened about 20 miles from camp Wild Rooster inadvertently left the pavement and lost control of the rooster mobile. We were able to get him back on the road with no injuries to him and only a few cosmetic problems with the bike. A special thanks goes out to all that assisted in the rescue mission.

Day 2 - the end

We returned to base camp where we were greeted by the fellow captains that have arrived on Friday. We had a great meal under the tent, watched the RAA IV Dvd and partied like rock stars.

We also managed to call Skip and inform him that we broke the seal on his orange shine.

The rest is history
