I have gotten the "call" and I am going back to Afghanistan. For this reason I will not be able to leave at 5 pm on the 4th of September from D&D Cycles as I will probably be at FOB (Forward Operating Base) Sharana, near the central Afghan/Pakistani border.
Sorry guys, I was really looking forward to going on the trip, but after my wifes recent bout with breast cancer (she is doing fine) and her subsequent lessening of income during that time I am going over to pay down what debt I have so that we won't be living as close to the edge as we did during her recent illness. It was too close even for me and it's gotta be done.
The bad thing is I am leaving a job that I really did enjoy but the pay was not going to collapse any financial time frames any time soon....maybe when I get back I'll get it back.
I leave for Houston to start outprocessing on the 17th of August and sometime in the next 7 to 10 days will be flying back over.
Baggage1 and Scot in Exile at least will not have to deal with as much rain on their trip though they now are extremely "rain qualified" to travel.
Hey Dennis,
first off, be well and come back as you are if you can. second, it's gonna be a little bit down knowing you're not gonna be there. I, for one, was looking forward to meeting you. I'll look forward to meeting at a later time. keep us rolling on your tango, and stay low.
What was the term we used to use, what are you gonna do send me back to.... Honest Dennis we didn't really mean it! I understand your need to get back in the black with things and my main concern was that it was a joint decision. We will miss you on the run to ES but you will be in our thoughts and prayers for a safe return.
We'll be thinking of you and hoping you keep us up-to-date here as you can. Sorry to hear you're having to leave your job there. I was envious!
I've not been to Afghanistan, but I've had several wonderful opportunities to visit other tourist destinations in that area of the world. Maybe we'll have to have RAIV in Florida upon your return!
RocketDaryl, have you fished on Eglin main? The bass sows in upper Bens Lake were trophy size back in the early 80s. They've got to be monsters now. Lower Bens lake was mostly shallows and filled with gators. That reservation had every native Florida wildlife species, and an import or two. I harvested several of them, with bow, in my more adventurous days. I found some the wildest lands were just just south of I-10 and west of 85. There were spiders as big as a fist; which kept the creeping around at night to a minimum
Have a safe trip Molinoman :bch: I'll keep a sarsaparilla chilled for you.
