Have a problem with mine now at 5700km. Knocking noise in engine clearly heard @ 2000-3500RPM.
Dealer says there is play on gudging pin and have to rebuild complete motor. Pioston is touching head. Anybody same problem?

Grudging pin? Same thing as wrist pin? Crank pin? Piston hitting head is a major problem, makes a LOUD noise. Usually happens when a rod bearing is very badly worn. Haven't heard of that happening to a Rocket motor.

gudgeon ?

gudgeon pin? that's a new malady to me. never heard of a rocket having any issues there.

Gudgeon Pin is the Brit term for wrist pin just like a spanner is an open end wrench.

I suspect the piston will contact the valves before it contacts the head. The crown is recessed to allow the pistons to clear them. Any undue radial play in the gudgeon pin will cause the piston to contact the valves first. With that low of a Km figure I suspect it's lubricating oil failure. The R3 has undercrown oli jets so the gudgeon pin is always bathed in oil. Wonder if he used the Mobil Racing 4t or Pennziol.:D The wrong lubricant or trying to extend drain intervals will quickly destroy any engine.

I dont think so Tim . . .

There would have to be a LOT of slop in the wrist pin bushing before it woud ever contact anything. The piston would bust the rod or the noise would be scary loud before a piston would ever touch a valve or the head. A few thousandths make a noise like a ball peen hammer on the engine block on either end of the rod. Not saying the wrist pin bushing or rod bearing isnt the problem but the piston hitting anything because of either . . . uh uh.
