After multiple failed start attempts with the negative battery cable loose (unknown to me) the engine light stays on.
The situation is that the bike did start and I drove it on the highway and it would cut off and on while going down the road. When I pulled off the road and stopped, the bike would not start again. I realized the negative battery cable was loose and cranked it down with a screwdriver. It started right up and all was well except the engine light stays on.
It is still on after 700 miles and 3 days.
Is there a way to reset set this?
Is it possible something got messed up in the computer from the multiple electrical hits?

You need tune boy or tune ecu to take a look see and clear the errors.

+1 on the TuneECU or Tuneboy recommendations.

In the short term, you can go by Autozone and they can hook up their ODBII scanner to tell you what the code is and reset the error.

Turn your bike on and let it do the guages sweep turn bike off. Repeat 6 or 7 times, I believe that will reset the ECU.

It probably is a charging system error. It probably won't clear until you reset it with a diagnostic tool.

Okay, I disconnected the battery for over an hour and tried the key on key off 7 times and the light was still on. 5 hours later I went for a ride and the light was off but came back on a few minutes into the ride. I went to Autozone and put on the OBDII and read the codes: P1552, P0560, and P0705. The only thing they could use to interpret the codes was relating it to car codes: one was a short circuit condition, another was a gear position sensor (that is a known problem, neutral indicator does not work), and the last one was a computer problem.
Anyone know what they mean for a RocketIII?
After disconnecting the OBDII and starting the bike the light was off now on the ride home.
Going to work now and will see what it does this morning.

The gear position sensor problem can sometimes be fixed by loosening the bolts holding it on and retightening them whilst pushing the sensor as far to the right as it will go. I think it is located at the left rear of the motor.
