Ride
2010 Triumph R3T Black "Darksider" imitation 70cc motorized "Harley Davidson" bicycle
At idle my R3T RPM is going up and down between 850 and 950 RPM, every 2-3 seconds.
Is this normal? I was told by a mechanic friend that this is called "engine hunting" and is normal in hi powered engines.
I have the triple K&N's , secondaries removed and full Jardine exhaust, O2 sensor disconnected.
Tune ECU is this one..R3T_Jardines_20366_base_Jan2011.hex
Do others that have the same setup as mine have this same thing?
Its not bothersome or anything I just want to know if it could be a concern?
I also have a fair bit of popping (not backfire) on deceleration, but according to another thread I read this is ok and considered normal.

Popping on decel indicates a lean mixture down at the bottom. It could also be a little lean at idle which could make it "hunt" a little. Neither is a huge concern. Popping can be totally eliminated with Tuneecu. I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you how.

I was having issues with my idle running amok. It would stutter and sputter along or it would sit at 3000 RPM and overheat the bike.

My guys at GP BIKES (A Triumph Authorized shop) adjusted the IDLE SPEED CONTROL STEPPER MOTOR and re-installed the correct tune. No issues since.

Mine was doing something similar and it got worse over time.

There were two contributing factors.

1 - Wrong ECU mapping
2 - Idle Speed Control Stepper Motor needed to be reset

Good luck.

Big thanks dtgiese, I will try your tune and see if it helps.

fantastic tune!

Thanks dtgiese ! It worked! the popping is gone and the bike is running even better!
Just wondered if Wayne gave you any other details? Was it on a dyno?
Horsepower? Torque?
many thanks!

I had the same problem and narrowed down to what was mentioned.

1 - Wrong ECU mapping
2 - Idle Speed Control Stepper Motor needed to be reset

For some reason if I disable the O2 sensor I get erratic idle. Switch it back on, 12 minute tune, then the erratic idle goes away.

I took it in to the dealer under warranty (didn't say a word about the O2 sensor being shut off using TuneEcu because I thought they would void my warranty) and they adjusted the stepper motor because it was "out of adjustment". The idled good for about a week but then started back. Took it back they re installed the stock tune which therefore cut the O2 sensor back on. No erratic idle after that. Now the other day I've been itching to put the "hotter" tune back on and disable the O2 sensor so the ECU wont lean the tune out. Guess what? Erratic idle came back! Anyways I put the "saved tune" back on ... O2 sensor back on.... she's back to purring like a kitten.
Don't know if any of this will help but that's what I experienced.

Ok, I took my bike out for a ride and the check engine light came on.
Hooked it up to Tune ECU and it says Lamba sensor problem.
Tried clearing it on Tune ECU but it keeps coming back on.
Now, the Lamba sensor is the same thing as the O2 sensor right?
So I unchecked the O2 sensor and the engine light is still coming on.

Ok I have reverted back to my original tune and unchecked the O2 sensor and the light is now gone.
Dtgiese, when Wayne did your tune was it with the O2 sensor still attached or disconnected and unchecked?

Crap, it was running nice with your tune Dtgiese
But I can not continue riding with check engine light on.

That's strange. All the weird stuff that has happened to mine the check engine never has came on.
