Electrical problems R3 2005

After parking my R3 2005 and go overseas for 6 weeks, I came home to see if my bike would start.
I started ok, but the speedo and tacho didn't do the initial check, where the needles go all the way up and then back to zero.
As soon as the engine started, the tacho did the check, but not the speedo. The odometer worked so it is getting some signals.
When turning the bike off, any kilometers shown on the trip counter resets back to zero, just like when you disconnect the battery (and the speedo doesn't work)

What the f#@k happened?? Any suggestions??

Anyway, I got that pissed off that I just went out and bought another (younger) rocket so now I can still enjoy the riding while thinking about the oldie.

He he! The wife thinks that we are going to sell the old one, but I was more thinking about mounting a blower on it.

While I am far from a mechanic and truly a novice at electrical matters, I may have some insight on this with a similar incidence I had on a different bike a few years ago. First, I have never used a battery tender as my bikes never sit long enough to need one. But I have been counseled by many people who say that if the bike sits for a week without being run that it needs to be hooked up to one. That is a “maybe so” in my way of thinking. But what I did discover on a bike that ran 5-7 days a week was that after 5 years, the battery “got tired” and needed replacing. I found this out after a two week long vacation away from the bike and had almost the exact situation that you describe here. I got a new battery and all was well. I hope your situation is as easy to fix as mine was.
