ECU Help Please

In a previous post I had a dead bike that turned out to be a loose battery cable. Now that that is all fixed I have a bike that starts but isn't running very well. I need to read the ECU fault code and or do whatever needs doing to get it right again. Problem is I do not have any ECU reading software or cable etc. I have to tow it to the dealer, who is being nice and is going to stop by and pick up my bike this weekend as a favor. (Ridge Motor Sports in SC by the way, really nice people. Jeff over there is Da-Bomb, really helpful etc.)

Anyway, I wanted to get some opinions on this option.

All Ii want to do is to be able to read fault codes, check various voltages etc. The bike is mostly stock. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
TuneECU is the best solution there is unless you need to do very specific high end tuning work. By high end I mean raising the rev's well into the red line following extensive top-end work (head/valves/springs/cams).

Just make sure you download the latest versions every time you intend to use it.

The cables are as you've seen very cheap - the software itself free. What more can you ask.

Tom & Alain also give a lot of their time to the project and will reply to questions.

That's pretty much my story too and TuneECU is perfect (and a price-performer) for that task. I've replace/adjusted my TPS, re-sync'd the ISC, etc. Thumbs up from my perspective.
 
Buy an obdc II code reader/eraser. I got one for $60. Came with a cable and I can use it to monitor 4 parametes while riding. So it sort of doubles as a guage. Mine is an Autel but there are several out there.
 
True enough but the request was just to be able to read codes and I would guess to clear them as well. TuneECU might just be a little on the overkill side.

I did a little work where I had to lift the tank on my R3T. When I started it up after it ran like crap and threw a code. I cleared the code and it settled down not to return. Did work a second time no code. Third time it did the same stuff. Same code same symptoms and same results. The first and third time I had an almost empty tank. The middle time it was half full. The code was pointing to a fuel system error. My guess is that the fuel pump got air in it and caused it to go into limp home mode. You might want to try removing the battery cable for a while and letting the ecu reset if you had the tank up. Just a thought.

But i's free overkill. And will allow you to make sure that simple but important stuff like individual inlet tracts are balanced. There are other mini tasks like TPS and ISCV resets too that make dealer independence easier.

I dare say you could find a way to fit a micro-PC and use it whilst riding. I did think about it - but other things intervened.

I too bought an OBDII monitor reset thingie. Used it twice. ime - it was distracting, so best used in "log" mode hidden away under the seat. But also because despite appearances the R3 (standard 2009 anyway) is NOT OBDII - it's OBD. I've had this confirmed by two monitor thingie dealers who asked Triumph.
 
OK first of all a big thank you to everybody for all of the help.

I have downloaded the tuneECU software and ordered the cable from PowerTripp, which if my luck improves could be here by Saturday.

I now have a few questions. Background: Laptop with Windows 7; 05-rocket, stock pipes, airbox, CAT-delete
GOALS: Get this program & cable installed and functioning properly. Check error codes, reset things as needed.

Questions:
NET Framework, what the heck is this do I need to worry about it? Windows 7
Do I need to load a map just to check my settings etc.? Can I just copy my existing map for now?
What the hell am I supposed to be checking/testing anyway?
Where do I find the information I need as far as settings etc.?
Any advice to prevent my screwing this up royally?

Any help, advice, kind words of support or information given would be as usual greatly appreciated.

First off thanks for all the help, you all are simply the best. One quick question, I noticed that there are rocket tunes for all VIN, and rocket tunes for the classic rocket? I assume I could use either of these? 05 standard with CAT delete, standard air box and pipes.

The "Classic" tunes have lower speed restrictions and a couple of other differences. It is generally recommended that you don't use "Classic" tunes in anything - even Classics.

Classic tunes at a guess are "softer"? - I'm off to look.
