Eastern Rally July 2026

Yes it was a fat finger misspell. I should add that there is more there than just tight twisty roads. The open valley views are magnificent.

Rt 58 sometimes called "the crooked rd" is another favorite... from rt 16 to Damascus, VA is FUN especially as you get near the west end along the river.

Yes this is a nice road but prone to Pickup truck and camper traffic in the summer. I always stay at a chain motel in Wytheville and that is fine for small groups but it does not allow for the outside chair and covered party area like the mom and pop motels that this group seems to prefer. We are a long way out and plenty of time to discuss all the options. It does sound like some of our members are familiar with the area.

Both Back of Dragon and Hayters Gap are there. The second one is Sr80 coming up the north face is the challenge road. That is Hayter Gap
Sr80, oh yeah... I remember that one. I don't think it was named on the map when I did it. It's a "fantastic ride!" if not for the gravel, potholes, lack of guardrails, sheer fatal drops to the right, steep mountain wall to the left, and single lanes around super tight twisties. An oncoming pickup truck doing their usual lane straddle (if there even is a lane and a half) coming around a turn gives you two choices- head on, or drive off the cliff. It says "expert only," but I think that has nothing to do with it. More like Russian Roulette. Been there done that!

I remember the ride in Kentucky years ago, going through the hills with nothing on the right to keep you from going over the edge, and wondering what kind of nut cases built these roads, then i see some locals coming down on their 4 wheeler with a trailer, and it all made sense at that moment. **** the moonshine and BBQ was good that weekend, best i have ever had in my life
