2011 R3T, Saving my 1996 HD Softtail for Grandson
Can anyone recommend a good Dyno house from central Florida to South Georgia that has experience with the R3?

The stock R3 Touring is very restricted in the ECU in stock form. This is easy to change. My dyno reads around 13% lower than Dynojet dynos, and we normally see the stock R3T put out 85-87hp and 130-132 ft-lb of torque. After removing the restrictions in the stock ECU and mapping it in on the dyno, we tend to see 115-117 hp, and 138-142 ft-lb. [A very significant increase in horsepower and torque.] We tend to see significant gains in cruise mileage as well 33-36mpg at 80mph+ and 39-43mpg at 70mph.

The TORS (Triumph Off-Road System) exhaust really does not produce any more output on the R3T than simply drilling a hole in the baffle in the stock exhaust. The real exhaust restriction is in the diverter box under the bike, in front of the silencers. This is where a custom replacement Y-pipe can help.

A K&N filter under the seat does not show significant gains. There are gains possible with going with three RU-2780 filters under the airbox - especially with full aftermarket exhaust systems.

I have attached a graph of different R3T models tuned with different exhaust and air filters. Dashed lines are torque, solid lines are HP.
Red - As delivered with TORS exhaust and K&N filter under seat - 86.9 hp, 131.1 ft-lb (stock exhaust will be a bit less)
Blue - After mapping with TORS and K&N. 116.8 hp, 142.6 ft-lb

Yellow - Stock air filter and exhaust - 1" hole drilled in baffle. After mapping - 115.1 hp,137.68 ft-lb.
Green - After mapping w/ D&D slip-on silencers, triple RU-2780 filters under bearclaw. 115.6 hp, 138.9 ft-lb

i wonder how hard it is to have someone weld up a 1 into 2 to replace the stock unit... from the pics i've seen it shouldn't be that hard, would seem like a friendly muffler shop ought to be able to build one for a reasonable price...

i may even pull the thing off and try to make a template and try to weld one up myself... that should be a good weekend project...

No, I'm not disappointed in the R3t, it's great, but for a few hundred dollars I get a smoother, fuel efficient and better performing, makes sense to me... also gives me a reason for a road trip.

Wayne mentioned the diverter box, and yes, it is a major problem power-wise. I refused to pay the rediculous price for the staintune crossover and made my own. With the crossover the gains were significant over 3k rpm. I'm not at the 3500-6000rpm range very often but its nice to have it when you want it. After tuning (with the diverter box thrown in garbage) my MPG at the 65-85mph range went up another 2mpg. I'm sure you will be happier after Wayne performs his magic on your R3T.
