drive problem or not?

hi cootertwo,I will let you know what I find but im thinking im going to need triumph tools to go any further.that may be quite a wait,im in spain and the rocket is a rare thing here.

its an 09 classic.23,000 miles.noise is coming from front end of shaft but I will check again.thanks guys
My output bearing went bad at about 15000 miles! I have an 06 classic. Triumph wouldn't help with anything! My dealership charged me their costs for the kit and helped me some with the labor! 4000 miles later, so far so good! Oh yeah, they pulled the motor to replace the bearing but Warp9.9 said it was close but it could be done without pulling the motor!

Yes, from what I've read, there is a bit of knowledge, and perhaps a special tool or two, that is required for removing, and reinstalling the swing arm.

The only special tools needed are to release and torque the engine mount lock nuts they look like a slpined bearing nut. others have ground there own to do it. You can change the output without actually pulling th emotor but you still remove the rear frame mounts and looses the front one so you can tilt the rear frame upward.

further update

I made a tool to get the swingarm off,UJ is fine,i placed the shaft back onto the tdu shaft(no play here) and rotated it,i couldn't hear anything in neutral,it was smooth to turn.however when I put it in gear it would turn almost one quarter before it would hit a stop, the same turning it backwards, this seems a lot to me, and the clunk when it did hit stop was coming from the front end of the engine(got the wife to spin shaft)im thinking its nearer to the clutch just below the oil tank.

anyone think im looking in the wrong place?should I be into the clutch?is a quarter turn of play normal?

for info only....
anyone worried about grease on the shaft front splines, mine had plenty of it, also on the uj too.swingarm bearings also well coated.

cheers
