Drilling Holes in Pipes

If you mess up the pipes I can sell you my old ones cheap (I got the TORS on my touring).

I appreciate that...I think nobody can be sure what will happen so I'm reluctant to try, but I will think about it. Fish

I used a drill bit extension, and a rather large drill bit ( can;t remeber size)

but in the regular R3 there is the outer plate, then two more plates

work slowly, and methodically, try one layer then see what it does, then another, etc

when you finally get done, you need to do a 12 minute retune, but it won't be that much difference...

might rev a bit more freely but hard to say with those cats in there

I'd just wait for a TOR or cat delete to come up for sale.... with everybody going over to the 3-1 set up something will eventually come up.....

How much louder did the pipes get? Fish

Gotcha, thanks.

the Tourer pipes have built in cats, so a cat bypass isn't an option is it?

it was louder, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 louder, no where near as loud as jardines.

take a goodlook at how the pipes mount up and what comes off, you might be able to use pipes from another bike, I know it was common on the Yamaha royal star tourer to use stock road king mufflers for example

Got ya..just didn't want to get into the expense of adding any other pipes right now...an almost 50% increase is pretty good (though I know it's an estimate).

Does it run better did you need a retune.

You're saying if it's not running well, retune? It was running fine, just put on over 1500 miles, but I haven't tried it since I retuned it 1/2 hour ago....

I think he was asking me, I thought it sounded louder and a little better then the stock super quiet pipes.

but sound is subjective. for a temporary increase in noise its find, you can always experiment by making the holes bigger or deeper but you can't make them smaller

Sorry! I got confused w/ 2 different threads (was just talking about the 12 minute retune and when to do it)...
