difficulty finding neutral

depending on the location of the crank arm on the liftershaft and the and length of cable sheath the amount of rotation can be changed. to much rotation and you could break the lifter piece. like wise it can also crate a lot of freeplay which can make the lifter piece rattle more.

hey scott do you have any tips for setting clutch lifter?

seems pretty basic thing, but during the kit install i also replaced the lifter shaft & plunger (stock ones were barely marked, just thought "while i'm here..."), you have to twist the shaft forward in order to close the clutch cover fully to crankcase, after that the alignment dot is in approx. 5 o'clock position. i attached the clamp thingy and turn it forward more to get it all hooked up.

now the clutch rattle in neutral with lever out is more pronounced, i'm worried i could have missed something.

My clutch rattles a bunch in neutral. I use a nickle to set free play like I have in most of my bikes. Dealer set it tight at 500 mile ck and have no idea why. Have trouble getting it to stay in first on first start up, jumps out some times. Once in it is good for the day. Was at the dealership the other day and told em about it. Bike only has 2000 on it and its a 2013 Touring. They said it was normal for a new bike? This transmission has to break in?

The tranny is like a Valkyrie with square cut gears and my Valk had this same type. Never an issue with shifting or gears at all in the Valk. Not at all happy with the response from the dealer. I've also brought it up before about second gear having more delay engaging than the rest of the the trans. They also told me to be patient with it. The second gear thing is more concerning about then the first gear issue.

Hooter they do loosen up as the break in that I remember. Most guys found that feathering the clutch a little as you put in first gear will allow it to engauge fully and it won't pop out.

Thanks, I will give it a try. I rode about a 200 mile trip this morning and had the same problem. Patience may be a virtue here. New bike / brand, I have to learn the quirks. Sounds like a common issue.

I've had this issue with neutral. It happens less now that I have 40k miles on my 07. I think sometimes it wasnt the bike, it was me; maybe not pulling clutch in all the way, heavy toe shifting (my thick steel toed boots)..... yes its a pain and I see our Jersey friend is worked up about it. I hear ya. Maybe it
can be taken to the dealership to see if it is something they can look at under the warranty. I know it is not helpful to say it is a quirk, but I do not think there is perfection in any bike and this is my 5th bike-all Honda's and Triumpha. Now I just joke to myself that she just really wants to be IN GEAR and ride and not in neutral or sitting in the garage. Gotta make lemonade when life gives you lemons, sometimes......
