Actually color does not matter. Early years pre Roadster had better cam covers
I have both black and chrome and neither has ever leaked. And I've reused the gasket more then once. But the old cover surrounds and holds the gasket in the correct location. So it doesn't squeeze out. Spark plug areas are held/gripped in place too. Thats a area alot of people mess up on. Some try to do it with the throttle bodies in place. I just pop them off and hang it from the handle bars with cables still attached.
