Just so you know—even though it’s not the original topic—the technical manager from Triumph France was visiting the island last week. When asked about the rear brake—which constantly needs bleeding to work properly—his reply was: "We are aware of it; for now, there’s nothing to be done other than bleeding the system." He added that the problem seems to stem from the ABS unit located under the fuel tank and above the engine, which apparently gets "too hot"...

but a lot of people in very hot regions dont have rear brake failure

If you look back at a few threads a few of us for the last 5 years have been preaching the heat from the engine and exhaust theory for a long time. My dealer stated they had no idea why the rear brake goes soft over and over again but if you bring it in they will fix it ( temporarily of course). Since I am a betting man I would say Triumph knew this from the start and figured it would be much cheaper to make the buyer come to their house no matter how far the client has to travel to get the rear brake bled. Much cheaper than actually fixing the problem. Don’t think for a second they haven’t crunched the numbers pro and con. My 2020 needs another bleed making it #4 and I barely ride anymore. Free or not It pisses me off. Just fix it Triumph instead of reapplying bandaids. :banghead:

It is really irritating. Has anyone tried racing brake fluid with its higher boiling point?
 
MightyMouse, I completely agree with you, and the response I got from the Triumph manager just confirms my view: "We know about the problem (read: our engineers messed up on this one...), but we couldn't care less because it doesn't bother you *that* much—plus, it keeps you coming back to the dealerships where we hope to offload more gear on you." Basically, they're taking us for fools! It's a shame, because I wanted to buy a Bonneville for my wife, but I think they can keep it... To answer Nashvegas regarding brake fluid: since the system was bled, mine has been running on Motul 5.1—currently the top-tier product from this world-renowned brand—and it made no difference; after 2,000 km, the brake pedal travel increased again...
My next step is to insulate the rear brake line that runs *through* the lower engine casing (did an engineer actually approve this design?) and—despite what I said below—try replacing the 5.1 fluid with RBF 700 (with an annual flush), because I’d rather work on the bike than end up in the hospital!

I wouldn't recommend using true racing fluid like RBF 700, as it's even more hygroscopic than the 5.1 (it requires changing after every race... or at the very least once a year for a road bike).

NB: I think the site administrator could move these posts to "rear brake problems"...
 
Funny huh. I was ridiculed for years over the crappy brakes issue. All ya gotta do is put a rock on the brake pedal overnight, right? Or was it the Brembo calipers sucking air? Or wait, was it the automatic transmission valve body? HAHAHA :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:

Come on, Stingray, have you lost your mind? You know perfectly well that:
1/ the dealer is always right
2/ if the dealer is wrong, the manufacturer is always right
3/ the motorcycle owner is always wrong—especially when it calls the engineers into question...

with out the proper info it is a problem to solve this problem or most other problems.
i asked a few questions from the ones that was having problems one being (because most being bad over sitting all winter) what would happen if tied a weight on the rear brake all winter would would it leak or will it be ok come spring . again wanting info. it seems as though i was asking to much to try and help
so i just told myself if they don't care why am i wasting my time and being laughed at for asking a question
