HeR3tic,
thanks for the heads up on the terminals. I'll get them cleaned up,greased, and squeezed this weekend. sorry R, didn't mean to sound perverse......

Bigern,
are you talking about the blade connectors on the coils?

greg
10/4 on the blade connectors that supply the 12 volt power supply to the coils. Those blade connectors have internal locking tabs that must be depressed when removing the wiring from the coils. If you just grab the connector and pull, it will come off, but now the connector is "sprung" and won't stay tight when reconnected which then comes loose and causes engine miss. Bigern

blade connectors

BigErn,
ok, now I'm seeing the picture here. a while back,I had noticed those things didn't feel very tight when I would wiggle them. now I know what to do, thanks to you and HeR3tic... do you know how to adjust the tps ? i wanted to get .60 volts like the standard calls for......

You have to loosen the TPS sensor and ever so slighty adjust it. It is a torx bit and helps if you have a small box style racket that will accept torx bits. You have to careful when tightening also as it will change the reading.

More details on page 11.126 of the service manual under primary throttle potentiometer.

thanks.......

that's what i needed,

thank you.......

I've got the exact same thing happening on my '07 R3 Classic, between 2K - 3K RPM, it sputters and coughs. I'm no mechanic and it sounds like you don't have to be to solve this. Where do I find the coil connectors you speak of? What is involved here, I am 11 days into a 15 day trip so if it's easy I'll do it on the road, otherwise I'll wait until I'm home.

Thanks in advance.

On my touring model they are on the right hand side (sitting on bike) under the gas tank. Hardest part would most likely loosing the tank.... again all I have is the touring model to look at....
Should be easy to figure out once you get to the coils...

I did clean up the contacts to the ignition coils as suggested but after a minimal amount of change to the ride, I took it in to the shop.

First trip, they told me that I had the wrong MAP installed, to which I replied, I haven't changed the MAP, so it was the same MAP as when you sold me the bike... They updated the MAP and they thought they had it. But after a 20 minute ride on the road at various speeds and gears (not simply idling in the shop for 5 minutes) the problem returned. NO CHARGE to me!

2nd attempt to solve the problem did the trick. After risking life and limb to record the problem with my phone, the decided to take me a little more serious and delve deeper into the issue. The problem seems to have been solved (so far and knock on wood) by making an adjustment to the IDLE SPEED CONTROL STEPPER MOTOR. This time there was a charge but the bike is running great and that's all I care about.
