Andy do you get a neutral light on the gauges when in neutral? If not or its iffy try loosening the two bolts on the gear position sensor and wiggle her a wee bit the bolt holes are elongated I believe.

Cheers will give it a go and let you know, the Neutral light is on. My thoughts are the bike must be thinking its in gear and sidestand down. Still confused.
Faulty same thing, cleaned gear sensor see pic. Nothing looks out of the ordinary tested out the housing shows neutral, 1,2,3,4,5 and (imaginary 6). Fitted back in place, starts in first select neutral cuts out. Brake switch works fine. Confused and frustrated.
OK thanks for the pictures of the new style GPS. I cannot see the contacts but assume they are in the body of the sensor? That being said have you checked the side stand switch? Now that you verified the GPS contacts are good it sounds like as soon as you move the shifter it thinks the side stand is down which would kill the engine. Just thinking out loud here it is electronics which means we might need @DEcosse oops I mean a electrical genius

Thanks for reply. On inspection of GPS there are no physical contact plates, my assumption is it must be magnetic triggers of a kind. I will test sidestand switch but if I start in first gear engine starts then flick out sidestand engine cuts out like it should. Cheers.
Just so I am not confused or get confused is the side stand down when your doing this or is it up? You can by pass it for testing I think just unplugging it might be enough so the contact is open. It could be the plunger on the side stand switch is stuck in. I have to go look at one hopefully the old style is like you new Roadster guy's
