coolant leakage

Bike Bandit has prices on everything. Then buy 'em cheaper from North County Yamaha.

And get a fairer deal on shipping...................

Thanks for that link, but I may just have to suck it up and pay what the local dealer wants if I want to go riding in the next 10 days or so

Well after reading these posts i went out to drain the water out of my coolant system and top up with coolantt level was very low so I though I had a leak then I put my thinking cap on why do we use coolant 1) It inhibits rust
2) It stops freezing in cold weather not a big issue in Miami
3) It raises boiling point above 100 degrees celsius

This where my water had gone it had boled off when engine gets hot in traffic. problem solved

Another thing to consider is that if your radiator cap is sticking in the closed position it will increase pressure on other components ( pump seal, hoses, O rings ). Also I have seen stuck thermostats burst radiator tanks.

Cap seems ok,but I agree that once it has overheated other parts will have been stressed. This is not the 1st time, not long after I got the bike, the fan fuse blew and I had to ride home in peak hour traffic with no fan
Ill probably splurge out and replace the cap and the hoses as well.
Im counting on the dealer to have everything I need.:spitcoffee:

But it shouldnt because the system is sealed. As its gets hot,any excess pressure is relieved by the cap opening and allowing it to be dumped into the overflow. As it cools it should be sucked back in by the contracting coolant in the radiator,or more precisely, squashed back in by atmospheric pressure.

I would like to thinks so Zim, but some how i think you are going to have a sad face, We cant buy a dam thing here it all has to come for some where else, where the hell do we live the moon.
I have a leaking valve stem, had rims painted and did not install a new one ,did not have one so put old one back in,Bugger three months later i have a slow leak.
Cant buy one here but over east i can , Just have to wait for it then i can fix.
I dont have a pump but a few other parts if ya get stuck let me know, i do keep stock up.
