Now that I just got finished bragging about the bike , I have a question about a rattle in the clutch.
When I first start the bike in the morning. Put it in first and then take off , I will sometimes get a hell of a rattle / noise coming out of the clutch area. Does not happen all the time.
I have checked the clutch cable adjustment. I am wondering if It comes from not engangeing in first gear fully ??? Can't say I have had another bike do this. Thing is I would not want to ignor it and hope it goes away , then leave sitting along side the road. BTW the clutch appears to have been replaced somtime in the past . I got it with 30 K , and I havve added about 8 K.

Russ, If the free play is right your probably hearing the small lifterpiece head rattling. Depending on whe your clutch was changed and what lifter part number was ordered. If it is this you will be ok. Also I do not remember whether you have a silver motor or black or the production/build date on your bike. It could be you have a leftover 05 motor installed in the bike which is not a bad thing just had different parts. Not to worry as it could be a leftover silver block with the newer cluctch basket. Hard to say until you open her up once she fails. If she fails, personally I would not be alarmed ride her untill the clutch fails. If your stuck on the road and have highway miles to travel you can put her in gear pull the floppy clutch handle in straddle the bike and hit the starter and away you will go. upshift without the clutch. I road mine 50+ miles home that way but it was interstate with no lights to worry about. f you have a lot of lights then I would not chance it as down shifting without the clutch lever to release the clutch could round the gear paws off.

I have the black motor. Also it was I believe a left over 05. Can not remember the exact build date , but very early into the 06 season. Not all that worried at this point. I will probably put it in the stand this winter and take a closer look. Trying to figure out what the clutch basket is. I have played with my share of clutches , mostly dry . Never heard of a clutch basket.

No black engines in 05 yours is a 06 they started building the 06 black motors in 05 to sell in 06 but I never heard of a black motor having a 05 basket yet.
Here is tha MTC basket mounted to the 06 backlash eliminator.

look at the clutch stuuf I have posted on this site and transfered to the .nut site on your post it might help you out.
