I only thought it worth a mention as of all the bikes I have ever owned , I have never known one so sensitive to the correct free play adjustment as the R3 !
As for the piss taking ? I more than deserve it !
Do you guys notice a big difference in clutch cable free play when the engine is hot as opposed to cold ?
I generally check the free play before every startup and am finding that the 3mm at the lever when cold becomes nearer 5 mm
After a run !
When the engine has cooled , free play once again returns to 3mm .
If I were to set the free play when the engine was hot it would be way too tight the next time I was to run the bike .

which was not a fun test ride. It would grab with the lever just off the grip. Of course I didn't notice until it was home, but the clutch rattle sounded like a snake was near by. Anyways yes always adjust clutches at normal operating temps. .
I did the same. Eventually finding the "right" spot. These bike shift like crap if there isnt at least a little freeplay at the lifter piece.
