I’ve noticed that when the bike’s temperature gauge reaches halfway, there’s a clicking sound at idle. It wasn’t there before and doesnt happen when engine is not half way hot in guage, the noise seems to have started recently.
I’m also due for a valve clearance/adjustment.

The sound is like a fast metallic tick—not exactly like two spoons hitting, but more like the ticking of a mechanical clock, just much quicker.

What could be the possible cause of this? How can I troubleshoot to pinpoint where it’s coming from? Has anyone else experienced this?

It seems to be coming from the left side, possibly around the radiator fan area/clutch area, but not directly from the engine block area

Any idea?

i once left an old part laying on top of the motor and it managed to move forward into the fan so as soon as the fan came on (about 200 degrees) i had this weird noise. might check out the fan try to spin it or activate with tuneecu.
hth

Does it speed up with very slow gradual revs, or go away? Valves would of course speed up. Maybe it's the fan hitting something and when you rev it it's just harder to hear.
I just found a bird in (well on) my engine. Something could have worked its way into the fan area

no, it doesnt speed up, it starts when bike gets really hot. but its interesting that it was not happening that often couple months ago, now its happening every time bike is getting hot.

I had a noise like you're describing after fitting the new exhaust. Sounded like a '70's car with some preignition. "tinkling " valves. turned out to be an exhaust leak. I tightened the exhaust manifold bolts and it went away. Now I have it again after removing and replacing the exhaust manifold. Going out after coffee and give it another good tightening. I don't know if a bike would just develop a leak like that on its own though.

thanks for clue, I will check the headers, i did open them 6 months ago, i will check their torque

An update on this. Cranked down the manifold nuts on the cold engine. Noise is gone like last time. Seems like torquing the nuts down on install, riding it, then letting it cool overnight and retorquing them is the way to go.

oh, i definitely didnt do that, retorquing after riding. thanks i will do that and go for ride and update you later.

Just another thing. I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but I used new gaskets each R&R of the manifold .and they aren't reversible/ symmetrical. I put on e on backwards and when I took them off one was crushed
