You ask if things are the same nationwide? here's my story (100% true).

When I was 20 years old, it was time for my first Drivers License renewal. Back then you had to go in, take the written test and so-on to renew your license.

So I went in, took and passed the written test. Then it came time for the eye test.

Note that I am blind in my right eye... have been all my life

Here's how this little exchange went;

DMV clerk; "Okay please cover your right eye and read line C behind me."

Me: "No need to cover my right eye, I'm blind in that eye,"

Clerk: "Oh! Okay then cover the other one." (WTF???)

So I covered my LEFT eye.

Clerk: "Now read line C behind me."

Me: "I can't see it."

Okay so there's a guy at the window next to me and is laughing at this little exchange. Anyway, we get though this little Eye exam and she tells me that she needs to make an entry about this in their computer. She starts typing, mumbling about it to herself as she does. Then she asked me, "What do you call that?"

I said, "A real drag!"

Okay so I get my renewal and they have their entry in the computer.

Fast forward to the current day, I'm now 47 years old and I got a notice from the DMV saying that I need to go in for my renewal to take the written test, get a new photo and eye test.

So I take the test, go to the window and the exchange goes like this:

Clerk; "Cover one eye and read line A behind me"

Me: "No need to cover one eye, I'm blind in one eye."

Clerk:" Really which one?"

Me: "My right eye. See it's actually glass" (I tappet it with the pencil to prove that it really is a glass eye.)

Clerk "Wow! Can you take it out?"

Me: "Yes"

Clerk "Okay so why don't you take it out and read line A behind me..." (WTF???)

I got out of there after spending several minutes convincing here that even if I took it out, that eye is STILL BLIND!!!!!!

Okay so I got my renewal, new picture and figure that I'm good for another few years before I have to endure this idiocy again.

So count yourself lucky that you don't have anything "special" that needs to be considered.

My Lucky Day

I will have to eat a little crow on this one. I took off last Tuesday, brought a Walnecks to read, and off I went. I walked in the door, and there were about three other people in the building. You still have go to the counter and explain what your transaction is to the Pattie or Selma look alike and get your assigned number. I just about had the big one, Number D422 was called before my butt hit the chair. The clerk actually said good morning and was on the attractive side. About 15 minutes later, I had a new title, temporary registration, and a promise my antique motorcycle plate would be arriving in the mail. All of this to the tune of $95.00 hard earned cash. The last time I went through this same procedure the wait was over three hours. I will say maybe part of my past experiences can be attributed to my bad karma. I seem to always get the waitress or grocery store clerk in training, the line that closes as soon I join, or behind the little old lady with a fist full of coupons and wants to pay in change with a vaginal coin purse. ( You know the one, made of plastic with the stilt that you have to squeeze to open.) Maybe my luck is changing.

Woodeye II

...Years back, I had my right eye operated on. I had an alignment problem....You couldn't look me in the eye because one eye looked one way and the other...the other. I never knew it because you brain compensates for the deficiency...unlike George Bush who had no brain.......anyway;

I went in for surgery and was talking to the surgeon. He told me it's easy to get an eyeball out, it is just held in with a liquid suction in the socket and he said the optic nerve is long enough that he could take it out and lay it on my cheek (which he did, of course, I wasn't around).

I asked him if I could have an extension mon the optic nerve so I could take my eye out and look up girls skirts as they walked down the street............................
