Cant get rear wheel back on

Got a new rear tire and now the wheel doesn't slide over enough to allow the brake caliper to fit in. I see Albertaduke had this issue before but just had the wrong spacer. I put some smaller spacers in and tightened it down, put it in first gear and got the wheel spinning pretty quick, then backed the axle out some and wiggled the F out of it, pulling it to the differential side, no luck. I had greased up the splines. Is it possible it was too much grease and the grease has nowhere to go? Thanks for any help.

Tire size? Brand? Rubber bumpers fitting correctly? Too much grease.....doubt it. Another thought.....brake pads fully retracted in caliper.....if not then caliper will not fit.....get screwdriver....big one to force pads back into caliper......?????......if they do not budge remove brake fluid reservoir cap and then try to move pads backwards.....at least this is what worked on my Valkyrie back in the day. Drive gears inside final drive aligned?

Yep its something simple like putting the spacer in before the wheel is fully up
That way it is already in the seal. Relax once you figure out what it is you'll probably be grinning.


Oh and if all you did was change the rubber then everything should go back up including the original spacer.

Sorry i was thinking about the rear wheel bearing problem a member was having

Its not the tire or the brake pads. Is there more than one drive gear? and one can spin without the other? Is this the gear on the wheel or the differential?

OK, I might have found the cause of this. Last summer when I took the wheel off to paint it, I put the axle in from the wrong side. So it was like this for 9 months. Could that have pinched the swingarm in?

Did you have a hard time getting the wheel off?If not doubt this would be the problem.

It was very tight. How the hell do I bend it back out?
