A couple of questions for the wise ones on the forum.

So my bike has had the upgrade due to paint can rattle and 2nd gear difficulties. 2007 standard. Upgrade installed last month of warranty in 2009.

Problems then went away and about a year ago a dog hit my bike, I crashed, and 4K in repairs later (to the bike, much more than that to me) I got back in the saddle.

Well, upon cold starts for just a couple of seconds I get the paint can rattle. Never more than that. Of course every time I take it to the dealer they cannot hear it, but I know it is there. If the temp is above 80 out, even on cold starts it is not there.

In any event, I notice in the repair manual, page 3.9, top left item #8, there is actually a tool to check the cam chain tensioner blade position, and if the results show no gap, there is a spacer specified that I am supposing places additional tension on the blade and theoretically all should be well with the world. So I went to the dealer to get mine checked and they never heard of the tool. They could order me one though, about 100 bucks.

The spacer was only a few bucks so I did order one and after about a week it came in, so I have that.

So, my question is, what do you think? Has anyone had any experience with this spacer? What were your results? I am wondering if anyone has just been given this as the solution to the paint can rattle?

Think it would hurt anything to just stick the spacer in and see what happens? It is just a small piece of metal rod, maybe 1/2" long.

Does anyone have access to this tool I can borrow? Triumph tool number T3880068.

Does the engine HAVE to be remoed to replace the blades?

Got to go ride now..........Later. I look forward to learning from your unlimited experience as I have done many times in the past.

You are obviously concerned about this so why not whip the front cover off, have a look see at the adjuster, chain & blades, decide what to do with it all exposed in front of you
It's no big deal.

Can I do that with the engine still in the bike? Cool, off I go.

Paint can rattle can aslo be due to failing gudjeon pins.. very similar sound effect & only when engine cold. Happenned to Joe

OK. what's a gudjeon pin, and where is it at? ? I know, I should know, but I don't . So be easy on me.

Mitch you can install that plug while the tensioner is in the motor provided your tensioner is not damaged. The Ratchet Pawl will hold the plunger in while you remove the center nut. You are correct about the plunger increaing spring tension. I would maesure to the bottom of the plunger and then subtract the plug lenght and see if thei measurement is longer the the length ot the dowel alignment pin plus the length of the threads to the copper washer Face on the shoulder.
