Hi all,

Bob Smith from South Jersey here. I am a proud new owner of a 2005 Rocket, recently picked up in Nashville, TN. My friend Jack has owned his Rocket since May last year, and invited me to ride his on several occasions. I never did, but test rode one at a nearby BMW/Triumph dealer open house in early August, and I was hooked, as I knew I would be. The Rocket has been at the top of my short list of bikes to add for several years, and I found the right one thru Cycle Trader, with a little over 36K miles. It was equipped much to my liking, with a great Clearview windshield, floorboards and heel-toe shifter, engine guards, passenger backrest and a few other accessories.

Jack and I did a 46 hour, 1650 mile road trip to pick it up 2 weeks ago. We left SJ Friday at 7 pm in his truck pulling trailer and made it to Bristol, TN at 2 am. Along the way, we stopped for gas in Harrisonburg, VA and noticed the right side trailer wheel was missing the dust cap and had some grease around the rim. After locating a replacement cap on Saturday morning, we left the trailer at TA Truckstop for bearing repair and continued on to Nashville, arriving at 2:15 central, completed the transaction, and were on the road by 3:45. I got to put about 270 miles on the bike, riding back towards Bristol, and what a bike! We loaded it up on the trailer, got another 150 miles up I-81 before stopping, and arrived back home at 5:30 Sunday.

I'm looking to change a few things. The LeatherLyke studded bags are not my style, and have to go, and I'd like to add a few items. Looking for sources, I found a few recommendations while browsing the Accessories Forum, and will let you know what I find.

My other daily rider bike is a 1998 BMW R1200C, that I have owned since June 2002, purchased with 8500 miles. I turned over 100k miles on New Years Day ride, and should reach my 100K before the end of the year. That is, if I can stay off the Rocket long enough to do it!

One thing I can't figure out is how to find the Classifieds. We've got a great member marketplace over at Chromeheads.org, and I'm hoping to find (and possibly list) some items for the Rocket here.

I suggest you install the Eastern Beaver relay to save your ignition switch and get brighter lights, no 05 should be running around without it:)
 
Bob Smith ? What an unusual name. (I actually have two Bob Smiths in my immediate family :D) Now if your friend Jack was on the roof of the garage and the ladder fell down....... Sorry couldn't resist. Welcome to the site Bob. One thing you should know is that we are a hardcore biker gang. The first rule of R3 owners.net is, we don't talk about R3 owners.net ;) All kidding aside, you'll like it here. Great people and all the info you could ever need. Welcome !
 
Gday Bob Smith - the only Bob Smith I knew wasn't really a Bob or a Smith, he was a dodgy bugger whom lacked imagination when making a fake drivers licence ;)

Also, say you made up the part where you trailered your Rocket behind a truck. Second rule of R3owners: the only time your Rocket goes on a trailer is when you are towing it with your other Rocket

Thanks all for the welcome and suggestion about the EB. Have to check into that.

Regarding the trailer, the plan was to haul it back at a high rate of speed due to tight time restrictions. Bike was not registered yet, at least they put a temp tag on so I could ride it out. I found out on I-40 that the truck could not keep up with the Rocket. Can't wait to establish a new top speed on the GPS, but question whether or not I'll have the guts to take it there.
