Other than going on a diet; just be careful when leaning forward. Be verry, verry careful....

Have to second Captain Jack maybe the hardest way to go but the best for you.
Or stop wearing all the studs on your leather jacket or some bars that reach back a wee bit more.

After getting on my new Classic (07) when I first picked it up I noticed the possibility of that happening...went right back into the dealer and got the tank pad.

I have the Triumph leather tank cover, it has a pocket just about large enough for a pack of smokes or a cell phone. It does it's own share of scratching the tank, but I like it for the pocket and to be able to lean on the tank without leaving hand prints on the paint.

Put a good thick coat of wax on under it to help limit the scratching from the backing pad, it helps to keep it clean underneath as well. It's for sure a trade off, light scratches to prevent deep scratches.

On a related matter, I have a loose gas tank pad. What is a safe adhesive (for the paint) to use?
