Bear Claw Modification

I finally found a guy here locally who does great powder coating. I've never liked the chrome bear claw so planned to coat it black, however, only want to do this once.

I eventually want to replace the stock unifilter with K&Ns so would appreciate any photos of Rockets with bad to the bone modified air intake covers.

One of the best things about the Rocket is that modifications always seem to make it so much better. Old ladies, women and children run in terror at our approach.

You'll find a lot of pictures here where the claw has cutouts for the K&N
mod. More than a few have coated the claw, most often to match the
tank color.

I'm thinking to figure out a way to mount the claw to the engine rather
than to the tank. Has anyone tried this? Would need to fabricate some
parts for sure. It seems to me a stock claw could then cover the K&Ns
more easily since it would not need to be lifted and lowered over them.

Sure they won't breath as much cooler denser air that way... but how
much difference that makes is to be seen.

I live in Queensland :lol: :lol: Rain isn't a problem.. If one weekend is wet, the next one will prolly be dry
However, K&Ns arnt too bothered if you get caught out & it rains..Also they are quite sheltered the claw covers them from above

I've seen some other air intake mods and I have an idea I am kick around in my head.

I want to take a mold of the stock claw and then modify it to scoop air from the front AND accommodate tri filters. I think that woul dbe the best of both worlds, the distinctive claw but with a slight scoop on the leading edge, ala the vmax.
