I went through this process last year. Basically the stock shocks are rubbish. Took them to a bike suspension specialist who advised me that they are oversprung or underdamped. Meaning that when they compress due to a bump or pothole in the road, the damping isnt strong enough to reease the spring at a reasonable rate. This results in the pogo effect. On the stock shocks I frequently found myself catapulted 6 inches above the bike.
The only fix is a new set of shocks unfortunately. I was lucky to get a set of fournales second hand for half price with not many miles on them. They totally changed the bike for the better. Handles brilliantly, no wallowing in corners or bouncing around. Totally different bike. I know they are expensive but for the improvement in ride they are well worth it.

It's on 3 for solo, as per recommendations elsewhere...nice improvement. Later tried 4 and it seemed like too much. Three for me.

Paul...before I got Progressive shocks I set the stock ones at 1 solo and 3 for two-up, but they suck on any setting compared to the Progressives. They're dangerous too because if you hit uneven pavement going through a curve the rearend will break loose and skip sideways  Puckers you right up

I agree Paul , not really on on a bike of this price , but I know of many owners who have not replaced theirs because they think they are fine .

I feel sorry for the pillions , what with a uncomfortable seat and suspension that yoyos them out of the seat .
