Australia's convict past

I can go overseas and ply my trade where i will be shot at plenty, i like being home and knowing there a very slim chance of lead flying

Tis honestly a slim chance here as well that one will be involved in gunfire!
Comforting to know IF one wishes, they can be prepared nonetheless.

Yep. If the USA didn't stop taking delivery in 1776 then OZ would be a very different country indeed. The French and Russians were also checking it out to settle as well.

Just in well the British colonised or I could have had the forum name of Citroeno Pierre or Lardao Borris :eek:

The control measures in Australia bought tougher license control & securing of firearms owned plus compulsory registration I think long overdue. The benefits of destroying firearms is I think are negiable just cost the taxpayer squillions of dollars to do it. They were paying good money for rusty old garbage that didn't shoot anyway. I am far more concerned about my son who is just starting to drive. Cars kill more people here than guns & you bearly have to know what your doing to get a license, so long as you no what the street signs are your right. Frightening when you have to drive around in it all day. 3 young blokes he plays footy against from the next town died yesterday. Many sleeplessness nights ahead when he hits the Road on his own. Just my 2 cents worth.
Sorry for getting the thread off track very interesting reading different hard world back then for sure.
Just another note the first European structure built on Australian soil was a gallows for hanging the Batavia mutineers of the WA coast by the Dutch in the 1600s

Huh?
Firearm-related death rate per 100,000 population per year
UK - .07
Australia - 0.13
Canada - 0.5
United States - 3.0
You win!

Stats can be made to say anything.
The HUGE majority of our gun related deaths are in our large cities and mostly in the minority communities.
Most of these cities/states are run by liberals and have severely strict gun control, which obviously doesn't work!
New Orleans, Detroit, WA DC, Chicago, Baltimore. . .

The large majority of our country is NOT dangerous!

Our countryman (and Canadians) have never had a problem taking up arms, from Gallipoli and the Western Front to Afghanistan.

Don't forget our Mates across the detch , a small country New Zealand but a nation of Warriors , they are always up for a fight if called upon in War

Also, the trivial "crimes" our forebears committed to end up being transported is interesting.

Hardly trivial - I mean!.
Should be applied to

Being in possession of an offensive wife
Wearing a loud shirt after hours
Walking on the cracks in the pavement

And pretty much anything else I can think of that may or may not annoy me - but which I feel to be right at the time.....
