ATGATT - Layers or "All-in-one"?.

I wore nothing but leather for 50 years.
Was no good when temp were hot..

Ever try perforated leather? - ime it beats any fabric mesh in hot sun.

I use the "all in one" Tour Master Centurion.

It has a lot of features, rain proof, has vents (scoops) on the shoulders that catch air and run it inside the suit, knee... shoulder protection, zip in or out insulation.

Its a little overkill but there has been times that I was really glad I had it on. I've worn it in the hot summer and people look at me crazy but the ventilation works really well ... IF I'm moving.

Takes about a minute to put it on.

I use the suit when it's cold or chance of rain or both most of the time.

Other than that I use a Alpinestars leather jacket with shoulder protection and textile riding "zip over" pants with knee protection.

I have four leather jackets (one at my son's in Maryland) three First Gear safari style (one being mesh), one other textile that my son bought at a Sebana Seca bike show (can't recall the name brand) and one additional very lightweight mesh jacket that folds up very small for easy stowage. I rarely wear the mesh jackets and that being only on very hot days.

For cross country touring I have found that the waterproof First Gear jackets, or other brands, give me the best all around protection, of course depending on the time of year. If I were to ride cross country in august I'd wear mesh with the zip out waterproof lining. I carry only rain pants which is Army issue snivel gear. They work great.

I wear leather only for local, early spring riding.

LOL! I've never had the runs and wearing the suit so I wouldn't know.

But to have the suit on and do a number 2 it's not as bad as you think.

The Aeorostitch Roadcrafter suit was always the one to wear for the serious winter riders but at about a grand I used to only see them on those riding Beemers. Back when I was stationed at the Pentagon I used to see a Navy Captain (pilot) wearing one while riding his pristine Airhead, all through winter. I chatted with him once as he was pulling it off and he showed it to me. It was top drawer quality and under it he only wore his winter cotton uniform.

First Gear just came out with one for about $200 and it looks pretty darn good.
