Rocket 3 2005/6 modifed!!!!
looking for a nice looking cruise control.. don't really want one that rests on the brake lever..

Any recommendations?

Mccruise does a good kit for the Rocket, I think they are the only one doing one for the Rocket

Several of us have the McCruise kit.

It is one of the best designed, thought out, documented I've ever seen, including multi-million dollar mods made on Air Force aircraft.

And it performs -- an excellent match with the ample torque available to the Rocket III rider -- really well.

Joe...if you did it yourself how hard and if not, how much for the install?

Yes I did it myself, and I would say it is not hard at all, if you have patience to take your time and follow the steps. It would be helpful -- I complained to them that they left a part out and I had to run to the local auto parts store -- if you live where there is access to odds and ends if you need them.

They say a practiced installer should be able to do it in four hours. I like to take my time, and took all weekend -- including time to really study the beautiful instructions -- study the bike -- study the instructions some more until I could "see" myself performing the next step or three -- similar to how some surgeons and astronauts visualize their tasks. Mostly overkill from a necessity perspective, but I do it for the enjoyment -- an extension of my childhood when we made roads in the Alabama red clay for our Matchbox (made in England back then) cars -- and then bored of the activity after the roads were finished.

So in addition to the kit cost and shipping (make sure you have your currency selected on their site or you're in for a shock), I spent maybe another $7.00 for little stuff.

Thanks Joe...You sound very patient and methodical, which is great...maybe I ought to see about installation!

Love to have you, and with even a little advance notice, I bet we could form a convoy escort. Would love to be a part of that.

I also have the McCruise on my bike. It is absolutely perfect. It keeps the bike exactly at the mph set wether going uphill or downhill. The control buttons are lit up for night time riding. The controls are mounted above the left grip and easy to work without taking your hand off the grip. I wish I felt as confident as Joe about the install but I didn't. I gave mine to Freedom Cycle here in Las Vegas and the mechanic (Mario) did a sanitary job of installing it. The shop charged eight hours so it wasn't cheap but I've not had any problems and I like it a lot. Cost is the downside of the McCruise as its about eight hundred for the kit alone. If you have the touring model it makes the bike into what a touring bike should be stock from the factory. These bikes have so much torque that even with a passenger going up a steep long grade the bike never loses any speed.
