Currently running 20 50 Max Cycle by Royal Purple. Thinking it might be better to run their 10 40 oil. Thought being that it would get in tighter areas on startup. Just a thought. I like the lower number. My concern is will the 40 be good enough at the temps these engines run at in the Houston climate where we might see 100 occasionally? Again, heckling to a minimum here.lol
Anyone else running the 10 40 oil?

I used to run super thick oil in my old V8's and tweeked turbo 4 bangers back in the day. I thought thicker was better for harsh usage.
But that's just not the case anymore .... thin "sewing-machine" synthetic oil is the savior of complicated overhead cam and multi-valve engines. That thin stuff shoots right up in the top of the motor lubricating important spinning parts quick. It's no longer better to have thick oil clinging to everything ... it's more important to get the pressurized metal-to-metal barrier up fast.

I use synthetic Mobil 1 5W30 in all my pressurized oiling system engines, including the R3.

***It's better for gas mileage too***
