Destiny Motorsports in Syracuse,Ny. Got a letter from triumph declaring them no longer an authorized triumph dealer. They still do service on bikes (all makes) and snowmobiles but cannot sell triumph. not sure why. I never had good luck with the service department. But maybe somebody else did. The nearest dealer is now 80 miles away! which sucks because these guys were not even 10 miles from me (accessories and state inspection is always a hassle) I would like to blame the economy but Im not so sure. These are the same guys that sent me a letter last December asking for donations to help keep them open! Go figure

Did you donate? I always consider a donation is the retail price versus the wholesale price, or pofit margin.

Having never been a new vehicle dealer, I can only guess that the profit in a new motorcycle sale isn't that much. It's the after sale stuff that makes money.

There are a couple dealers fairly close to me but I's never let them touch my bikes. I consider them like Juffy Lube.

Triumph of Buffalo. It's a bit of a hike but the service guys are very good and easy to talk to.

I heard that triumph is getting rid of dealers who did not promote and sell their bikes to their satisfaction. That's what happened to southeast sales on Milwaukee. They sold triumph, Honda, Kawasaki, and BMW. Triumph was just a corner filler for them
With the new bikes triumph is coming out with from now to 2017, they want their dealerships to be dedicated to primarily triumph

There is an inherent problem with being a one line dealer versus a multi-line dealer and that is motorcyclists have varied taste. You have the sport bike crowd, the touring crowd, the off road crowd and the dual purpose crowd and no manufacturer offers shining examples in every arena or at least other than what the manufacturer perceives as shining examples. Case in point, If I wanted a pure sports bike that was turnkey, I'd buy an FZR and never consider a Triumph or if I wanted a capable, go anywhere performance dual sport, I'd look at a KTM.

HD is that exception but they 'bankroll' their dealers to a certain extent whereas Triumph don't plus Triumph has never been a mainstream advertiser unlike Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and especially HD.

If, I was ever a dealer, I'd have multiple lines and if I was a successful dealer and I wared a Triumph franchise and I was turned down, well sucks to be Triumph.

In order for a dealer to be successful they have to be represented by the respective manufacturer, something that as far as I can ascertain, Triumph is clueless about. If Triumph is under the opinion that the 50's generation will support it's financial growth, they better think again. It's the up and coming generation that will provide the profit. HD found that out, the hard way.

Personally, I don't believe that Triumph (at least in this country) is in any position to dictate to any dealer. The economy negates that.

I dont get it!!

Triumph Dealership.

This title doesnt say to me that the shop is owned by triumph so why narrow everyones options. Both Triumphs retail options and my access to products and knowledge.

Australia is a very spread out place and I know that armed with the right info I can mail order anything I need overnight to my door. But I wont buy a bike in the first place without seeing it in person and riding it and doing the research from existing owners etc.

Limit my access to the product itself and Ill be more likely to go for something else. not going to buy something that is going to be a hassel for me am I. Local bike shop isnt going to spend on learning how to fix my bike if Im the only one in the area with one.

Man if I was triumph Id sell them thru KMart if I could. Have regonal warehouses with easy access to parts and info for local bike shops etc. Get the product under riders bums and force the creatation of that all important industry and infrastructure around consumer driven need.

Triumph...dont make me wait for a set of clutch plates to come from England again...

Flip......I agree with everything you said in your post with the exception of the last sentence.I was close to entering into a dealership agreement with Triumph very recently and know the head of dealership development and others that are very good and competent people. There are laws in NY that protect dealers from the issue under discussion unless there is substantial noncompliance with the dealership agreement.Dealers are struggling out there and many have major issues which includes not paying the manufacturers for parts, accessories etc.I do not know what has happened in this particular dealers case but I am sure Triumph would not engage in such action unless it was substantially warranted.

I did not donate as they have never shown me I should support them. They gave me 15% off accessories and 15% off clothing but really I paid what I would of paid somewhere else. This was a triumph only dealership and I was under the impression that they sold wuite a few bikes....so not sure whats going on. I do need a yearlt state inspection so Ill go there and find out whats going on. Maybe that will shed some light.
