ABS Light stays on with 130/70R-17 front tire

On the recommendation of some of the guys on here - I went with the smaller 130/70R-17 front tire. WOW - what a HUGE difference in handling it made on the bike. Much more responsive, slow speed to a lot easier to handle, I can turn tighter figure 8's in practice, and the twisties are SOOOO much more fun now.

Anyway, after the tire swap at a local non-triump dealer - the ABS light will not go out. I figured they didn't bleed the brakes right or something so I have it at the Triumph Dealer today and they just called and wanted to know if I knew I had the wrong tired installed and asked why I had.

Told them all the great reasons why and they questioned if it was the tire size different keeping the light on. Told them I hadn't read of anyone else having the issue and had assumed it was a bad brake bleed job.

Any thoughts?

Welcome to the ABS world.

So many things can screw with the system and cause a code. It will be a while until bike systems graduate to smarter ABS systems.

Just got a call back from the dealer... They called Triumph directly and the smaller wheel on the front IS the reason the light is on. Their system is all based off from wheel speed.

So, here's the question...

Does anyone with a classic want a good deal on a 130 tire? Also, does the ABS still work (I'll find out if no one knows by the time I pick it up) with the light on? If it doesn't - is there any harm running it with the ABS light on?

i work on cars and trucks. they are right about tire size. the speed sensors causes a code. i would assume that the abs light being on means that your abs does not work. i suppose it would make a greater diff. in the rain. the problem with driving with abs light on is if you develop another problem (that turns on the check eng light)you will not be alerted to the problem because the light is already on.

Yes ABS is running a SFPM calcualtion comparison between the wheel speed and is nooticing it is different from what is programed in the ecu. What type tire did you buy?

Hmm, will the 240/55 make a difference on the rear with the light as well???

Anyway of reprogramming the ECU for TuneECU???

correction i told you wrong the check eng light will come on if you have other problems.

Change back to stock tire size on the front, and the ABS light will go out after a 50 mile ride.

The rear tire size can effect Traction Control calculations.

No, this cannot be calibrated with Tune ECU.

I would think it should be an easy task to make a ABS-pulse re-calibrator - much like a speedometer recalibration device. Especially for somebody with a rolling road
