A thing of beauty or butt ugly???

lol... I think it's so funny that Harley and even the major mags touted the V-Rod motor had revolutionary and how so much development went to it. They barely mention that the motor is based on the VR1000, which Harley had been as trying to make competitive in racing since about 1995, 6 years prior to the V-Rod.

You made me spit up all over my keyboard....

If by based you mean water cooled and a V-twin, then yes, it was loosely based on the VR1000. Then again, one could made the argument that the V-rod motor was based on the Aprilia Mille, as that was also a water cooled Vtwin. The VR1000 and Vrod share no engine parts.

I think the whole "development" stage for the Vrod motor was more tailored to making a water cooled engine look pretty and sound like a HD vs. making it a true performance bike. That's why I found it odd that HD went into cahoots with Porsche to develop it.

I also snickered during the Vrod special when they mentioned the revolutionary design characteristics of the underseat fuel tank and faux tank cover that housed the airbox. Revolutionary if it was 1984! cough...Vmax....

I have seen one in person at the Destination Daytona during bike week last year. It is pretty cool looking up close, and everyone was admiring the craftsmanship it took to actually make it.

I would never buy one, but it a pretty cool machine. The front forks or lack there of, actually having 2 swing arms is what I found the most interesting.

I vote ugly

Didn't Yamaha do a bike some years back that had that front swingarm configuration? As I recall the rap on it was that it had a turning radius like a bus.
