Sounds like a dream ride mate. Id love to see some pics if you have any to post. Was the LT enjoyable...I know you say it was no rocket but sweet, would you consider it if your main bike was a roadster and you wanted a tourer?
My wife and I were just talking about something like this last night. I would love to take a bike and ride around ireland/scotland for a few days. Hopefully we can make our dream come true! Everything costs so much money...
The record for the longest backwards motorcycle ride is 150 km (93.21 miles) and was achieved by Hou Xiaobin (China) in Binzhou City, China, on 4 October 2006.
Dave Coates (UK) reached a speed of 244.1 km/h (151.7 mph) on a motorcycle sitting with his back to the handlebars at Elvington airfield, Yorkshire, UK, on 28 October 2002. (Guinness World Records...)
I have a month off coming up and if I clock in some Iron Butt time on the way I could probably do Ireland from here. Except I'm also flat broke, so vacation will be a bit closer to home this year. Ugh. Sounds like a fun trip.

If we didn't have Rockest, I would consider a Thunderbird as my ONLY ride. The LT doesn't have a tach. I didn't realize how much I like to look at a tach until it wasn't there.
I was just reflecting this morning on how I have no need for a tach. Who cares what the revs are at as long as the bike "feels happy"? The Thunderbird LT is a great-looking bike but if the R3 Touring wasn't around I might defect to the Indian camp and pick up a Chieftain...
