Pianoman, Mike M and yours truly took a short ride out to Lexington today. After riding the Pig Run down in Eureka Springs our favorite local twisty road just doesn't seem quite as challenging as it used to. The weather was just perfect today, so we had fun.
As we were cruising out to Lexington I was in the lead and of course.... I'm looking for any old car relic I can spot and instead of looking at the road I'm gazing off into the countryside. Thats why I almost ran over a huge dead rat right in the middle of our lane. I really didn't see it until I had almost gone by the dang thing and didn't have time to point it out to Mike and Dave who almost ran over it. It was at least a 2 pounder
.
As we got closer to Lexington an odd thing happened. There was a white S10 blazer stopped right in the middle of the highway. From a distance there didn't appear to be anything wrong with it but it also appeared that no one was in it. As I got closer I finally noticed that the stupid thing was blocking my view of a "Road Closed" sign and I hit the brakes hard. Now I can also see a second "Road Closed" sign that someone had smashed into and was laying in pieces in the road. I realized that I couldn't stop in time so I just slashed through the wreckage and somehow managed to not hit a thing. My poor Metzlers were quivering in fright. Later on we discovered that Lexington had closed down the main street in order to have an Octoberfest festival or some such carnival. They really did a ****ty job of closing down the hiway. No warning signs, just some homemade "Road Closed" signs and park a Blazer in the road. Nice....
We did stop for a bite at the local Mex Restaurant. If you ride with Dave you are never more than 100 yards from a nice eatery, or 5 feet from a spider. I had a nice live Yellowjacket stuck to my shirt and Mike and Dave tied for the ugly yellow bug award.
As we left the restaurant I of course got lost and we ran right into the Octoberfest carnival where it was closed to all traffic. We got a few stinkeyes for that. Fark 'em if they can't take a joke.
We did go out to a cool Civil War Museum and went on a tour of the Anderson House that was riddled with bullet holes, grenade bits and cannon ball holes even to this day. The lady that gave the tour had been doing this for 150 years and I think she was actually in the original battle. Both Mike and I thought it would have done her a world of good to get out of there for a bit but really.... where would she go? She was kind of like a school librarian that appeared to be packing heat. She actually did a good job and I would go again. I forgot my camera in the bike so no pictures... I'll see if I can find a link so as to further your edumacation...
Great ride boys... Lets do it again soon. Except for Piggr who never goes anywhere anymore.
