5000 Ks on the New 1400 GTR

What bike you doing it on Lofty , whats your thoughts on the new RK . Considering you do big miles , I'm suprised you hav'nt bought the rt3 tourer yet ,, hell of a comfy bike built for the long distance stuff ,, I've been saying for years i'm getting rid of mine and gonna buy a RK , simply because there more suited to me being a smaller guy ,, But i just can't bring myself to do it does'nt matter which bike i go out on , whenever i go on the tourer , i just smile and go Aaargh comfort .

Ken,

Really love my GTR 1400/Concours C-14). It's my long distance bike and the miles just roll by effortlessly. It provides good wind protection as is but some folks put on over-sized screens but I have stayed with the OEM screen. The stock seat fits my average-sized a$$ fine.

I put on bar risers and lower pegs so now it fits me great. This is the first bike that I have ever dropped fairly big bucks on farkles including 2 Brothers CF can, Throttlemeister, Canyon Cages for the engine/fairing and saddle bags, Tech Spec pads, helmet locks, custom rack to mount the Givi V56 NNT top case, saddle bag liners, Ram Mount for GPS, pig tail for battery tender and some other small things. The thing that helped make it rock was a new primo flash that really unleashed the performance. Previously things only got interesting over 5k rpm but now it starts pulling really STRONG at 2.5K rpm and the pull is completely linear. And yeah, you need to watch the speedo closely or you'll blow past the speed limit.

Having said all that, it definitely isn't a Rocket but nothing else is either... I really like it for what it does though.

I agree with your assessment of the GTR ,I have put on a Staintune pipe and can and installed a K&N air filter the Guy who Dynoed my Touring can remap the ECU if I wish ,but the bike is frighteningly fast as it is ,and it is a real Jekyll and hide bike, just cruising around at 2 or 3000 revs it is smooth as silk once 5000 revs are reached a huge power band comes on and right up to 10000 plus it just keeps on pulling even in 3rd gear 180Kph is well before the redline and 4th and 5th are just as strong and overdrive drops the revs nicely when cruising ,I am not usually a fast rider but out in the open roads west of Merriwa recently I realised what this bike is capable of, I have seen the U tube Clips of the GTR on the Autobahns and don't doubt the speeds attained even in stock form,I have ordered a pillion peg lowering kit to make the pillion more comfortable I also have a big top case and OEM pannier lining bags,I should have bought one of these when they first came out:inlove

I am taking the Road King, as there is nowhere to put a swag on my Roadster since I solo'd it.

I hated the RoadKing for the first few months as it was too smooth, too quiet and had no THUMP. (Not surprising as my other Harleys are Screaming Eagle 110 powered.)
Then someone reminded me of when I bought my 1st Evo powered Harley after years on Shovels. I said the same thing, too quiet, too smooth, and the thump was gone.
The new M8 motors are the same evolutionary step. Then I did a 1,300Km day in the saddle of the RoadKing and I got what it was about, heaps of comfort, less vibes to tire you out, and it could do a 1,500 Km 1 day trip easy if the rider was up for it.
So now, it is a keeper as I have fallen for it. I won't buy a Rocket Tourer as I prefer to have some feel and cadence in my engines when I am on a long ride (say 500km plus) The Rockets are too smooth on the open road ( The same reason I hated my around Australia trip on my 1800 GoldWing)
