Good Morning everyone!

I have a new 2012 Roadster, fully stock, only 600kms on it. I would like to have the same derestrictions like the 2014 models, or the equivalent of adding an ATRE on the bike. I would install a GIPRO type of device, but I dont want or need the gear indicator.

I have a ODB2 Cable ordered up already, and I'd like to see the steps needed to make the changes I am looking for

If anyone can help, I would certainly appreciate it

I too would like some reassurance that what I am planning to do is correct. I have the cable and a version of Tuneecu that communicates with the bike OK. The bike is standard and I have checked that the tune that is installed is 20352. I plan to install tune 20685 instead.

Mike, What does that mean exactly? is there somewhere that explains what each tune is and what the differences are? My bike is 100% completely stock.

Yeah mine is 100% stock too Ricochet but like yours it has the limiters on the first 3 gears. By the way other threads imply that Triumph did this by restricting the secondaries in the map that is in the ECU (whatever that means) but decided in 2013 that there was no point in doing this so changed the map in the ECU to open the secondaries 100% in all the gears (but they left the tops speed restriction of 125mph in place. I have my own theory about why they changed the ecu map in 2013 and once I can get the later map into my bike I will know if I'm right.

You need to read the threads about how to use TuneECU and download the program from the Tuneecu website into a Windows laptop. Then you can use your laptop and the cable you have got on order to replace the map (sometimes called a tune) that is in your bike's ECU with one that you download from the Tuneecu website - and I'm hoping more experienced people will confirm that the one we both need to download is 20685.

The cable you have ordered plugs into a socket that is wedged down beside the bike's battery, and there are certain precautions you need to take so that the bike's battery or your computer battery doesn't pack up in the middle of the download

Guys, not sure if you're interested but there is a new map replacing 20685, it's now listed on the tunecu site:

I already had the 20685 map downloaded, so if you want it I've uploaded it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/4c12x5cn8kaur1w/20685Map.zip

I am not sure if these are suitable for a 2012 roadster but my guess is they are...might be worth waiting for a confirmation that this is the case first though :)

My understanding is that the numbers are Triumph's own numbers so when you looked at the map that Triumph was using in the 2011/2012 roadster it was 20352 and if you looked at a 2013/14 bike it shows as 20685. So by putting 20685 into your bike all you are doing is exactly what Triumph did in their update. I don't think anyone has said that Triumph made any other changes to the engine between the year models. So if there is a newer map still than 20685, is this because people have looked inside the very latest 2014 bikes and seen a different map?
FWIW the reason the dealers can't simply put 20685 in your older R3R seems to be because of a policy decision by Triumph. I asked them to do it and they say their Triumph diagnostic tool checks the VIN number of the bike and chooses the tune/map that it wants to download into the bike and the dealer cannot tell it to do any different. Crazily this applies also to the TORs map so having paid to get Triumph deristricted exhausts the dealer then puts a restricted map into the bike.
I'd appreciate any correction to my assumptions if anyone knows better.
Thanks
Mike

Sounds like a fair assessment to me....if you think the map will work as nothing has changed to the bike then take a copy of the map you have in there and put the new one on and see...the ECU is the same right so it shouldn't cause issue with that?

Although I don;t think amending the existing map to open up the butterflies is that tricky, just needs someone who has done it to explain the procedure...then you can just modify what's in there...I think that is all that is different with the maps w.r.t. fueling from what I've seen posted before now.

Someone with more experience than me needs to chime in I think :)

I'm playing it safe with my 2014, I want to remove the speed restriction (~125mph) and get the clocks corrected to be accurate (minor tweak in settings) but I will likely wait until the warranty is up.

I've got the cable already delivered and just waiting to make sure I know what 100% for sure needs to be done to perform the 1-2-3 gear unrestriction and the 125mph restriction. To confirm, is this literally just as easy as loading the 20685 map? Are there no instructions anywhere that specifically show what modifications need to be made to get the secondaries open 100% and other details like that? It seems like a lot of people have done these modifications but there are no stickies or anything for specifically unrestricting the earlier roadsters. Thanks!

20685 downloaded into my bike OK. But then the bike wouldn;t start and the engine warning light flashed. So I simply edited the standard 20352 map to look the same (altered all the 2nd throttles to be 100% in all the cells for the first 3 gears. I didn't alter the top speed limitation but it looked straightforward to do. This time when I downloaded it into the bike, it was fine - and the bike is a million times better.
When you do the download you are supposed to make sure that the battery is connected to a car battery and you pull the headlights fuse. I did this but since it downloaded in maybe 3 minutes, I'm not sure it was absolutely necessary. BTW the fuse table in the manual is incorrect - the one in the lid of the fuse box is right.

Very interesting. Can you describe what the difference is that you experienced? What have you found that has changed?

I'm still a little hesitant on trying this. Why would a car battery be necessary? Weird stuff. Almost like having to disconnect the battery for installing the fly screen in the official instructions lol!

I would like to see some screen shots of what these tables look like or what other settings can be changed. Why wouldn't you change the top speed if it was just a click? Not trying to be funny but just wondering if there was a benefit to it
