Hi all,

I am new to this forum so if my post is out of place please advise. I have a few questions about the R3T. First is there a difference between the 2008 R3T and the 2009 R3T? I have located a R3T 2008 still on a showroom floor and it has two tone paint. Here in the US the asking price for a 2009 R3T two tone is around $17,500. So I am looking for your opinions on what a fair price for the 2008 R3T two tone might be? i am also interested and how much the value will drop once this bike is driven off the showroom floor? I am not a tight wad just trying to figure out what a fair offer would be and compare that to the value after ridden, being it would be 3 years old. Being retired on a fixed income i am just trying to be careful.

OK, RR, I'll toss my advice out there. I was in your shoes about a year ago. I did a lot of shopping around, anywhere within 150 miles of San Diego. I made offers on a couple 2008 models before finding a 2009 (specially ordered) right in town from the local dealer. The price I paid for a new 2009 in July 2009 was over $1000 less than what the lowest 2008 was going for.

You're in a much better situation, seeing as how 2011 is right around the corner.

Here's the advice: Have a set price ($14K for a 2008 isn't unreasonable, and $15,500 for a 2009 is fair) and leave your name an number with the dealers. They'll call you back.

Lastly, look for OTD sellers. Those are Out the Door prices, so you're paying for the bike, shipping, set-up, title, license, etc. It's easier to compare in that manner.

Go get 'em! (And let us know how you did.)

Hi dandiego,

Thank you for your input. I will let you know how I make out. i was thinking the best time to buy would be November or December. I love the black and white two tone paint on the R3T. I believe this is a 2008 color scheme only. Am I wright on that? anyway thanks again.

Personally I like a dealer that will show you the invoice and is honest about what he wants to make off the sale.

And that is fully loaded with all them accessories. Unless you are talking OTD pricing...then maybe it might be reasonable but the 2010's (2011's are now out yet guys) are a great buy in the "fully loaded" department especially since it is the newest.

Note: Since it is September...maybe I better check with my secret source and confirm whether or not the 2011's are out yet...I've been having so much fun over here that sometimes I do lose track of time...so, in this rare instance, I may be wrong and if I am I apologize to those who just might have a 2011 R3T in their possesion.

2008 - 2009 - 2010 ???

I was also thinking about the 08 issue and I'll tell you what worked for me. First thing to remember that the kind of people that by Rockets are "Real Riders". They are not kids who burn up tires and street race. When you find a used bike, they should all be well maintained and pampered. I found an 08 with a few thousand miles on it and it was spotless. I got it for under 11K, fully loaded with extras. You decide, but for the money, the only reason I would buy a new Rocket 3 Touring would be to get ABS Brakes.

Why limit yourself?
RR you said you're on a fixed income right?
I bought DustyRose's '05 model with I think 4,000 miles on it a year ago and paid $7,500. for it.
Still runs like a top and now has over 10,000 on it.
The last 6 or 7 thousand with a car tire no less.
find one that moves you and get it.
You won't be sorry.
Unless you count that depreciation factor once you ride it out the door...
