OK, RR, I'll toss my advice out there. I was in your shoes about a year ago. I did a lot of shopping around, anywhere within 150 miles of San Diego. I made offers on a couple 2008 models before finding a 2009 (specially ordered) right in town from the local dealer. The price I paid for a new 2009 in July 2009 was over $1000 less than what the lowest 2008 was going for.
You're in a much better situation, seeing as how 2011 is right around the corner.
Here's the advice: Have a set price ($14K for a 2008 isn't unreasonable, and $15,500 for a 2009 is fair) and leave your name an number with the dealers. They'll call you back.
Lastly, look for OTD sellers. Those are Out the Door prices, so you're paying for the bike, shipping, set-up, title, license, etc. It's easier to compare in that manner.
Go get 'em! (And let us know how you did.)
