06 tdc mark

hello all, does anyone know if theres a mark on the crank or sprocket to align up with line on the crank case to get TDC on a 06. The manual Im using is for an 04 that says theres a dot on a sprocket tooth you use to line up with, exept neither the old or new sprocket have no markings at all, any ideas.

I also have an '06, and the "dot" is actually on one of the teeth of the crank sprocket... very hard to discern. See page 3.13 of R3 Manual for clarification.

cheers Hombre for the quick reply, dam if I can see it, it just aint there, had a mechanic look for it aswell, did the key way happen to line up with the mark do you remember?

Maybe the factory put your crank sprocket on backwards, and your dot is on other side?

Anything is possible with Triumph.

Look on the same page in manual, and you will see how to align the cam arrows at TDC. If your cams have never been touched, the arrows should align with top edge of case pointing towards each other at TDC (stock cams only).

I would recommend that you double check it with a rod in #1 cylinder sparkplug hole, but that should be damed close. I can't recall about the key way... wouldn't trust it anyway.

Seems some earlier R3's and even replacement gears have no dot marking on the crank gear, look as hard as I could mine was unmarked, TDC tooth of the gear is (supposed) to be in line with the crankshaft key way, but to be absolutely sure I dropped a length of quater inch rod down the spark plug hole, I then sat a dial guage on top and set TDC from that, if you then mark the corresponding crank gear tooth that lines up with the upper case line with a tipex you should then be good to go. I made up a cam timing jig tool to hold the gears in place while the tentioner is refitted, worked great and helps keep everything in place after the chain is positioned over each cam.

Hi Guys,
if you look through the hole in the casting, just above the lower sprocket teeth, you will be able to see the crank. The mark for TDC is on the crank.
It took me some time to find this, but I'm sure it will be there.
