The manual states that one has to run the bike through every gear for a certain amount of time to re-train the TSA after battery disconnect. Where I live it's not necessarily practical to fly down the road in 6th gear for 10sec or whatever it is. I have not done this every time I disconnected the battery and it just seems to work when I enable it again but maybe just because it seems to work doesn't mean it's working as intended?

I looked at the owner's manual, the TSA installation manual, and the service manual and the only times any of them say to do this is if you've just (re-)installed the TSA or there's a gear position fault or the gear position sensor has been reinstalled, in which case you need to do the gear position adaption. Nothing about loss of battery power.

I think this is correct. I just had a dead battery that I replaced and the shift assist still works.

Mine definitely kicks off after disconnecting the battery. I just go into bike set-up, enable it and use the clutch the first mile or so. I never consciously went through all six gears before it started working again.

I put a lithium battery in mine, and all I had to do is re enable the quick shift in the menu
Someone posted a lengthy write up on why to not put a lithium ion battery into a vehicle not designed for it specifically in the forum a while back.

Yeah, Ive seen the negative posts about lithiums here and other forums. I have antigravity lithiums in all my bikes for years with no noticeable I'll effects. Cranks the bike way stronger. No problem with all the heated gear and grips on full. I wonder if the problems come from people buying cheaper brand lithiums. I think the Antigravity for the Rocket was around $325. I guess if I have a problem I'll change my tune. But so far ,so good.
