Current opinions on 2up use of newer Rockets

I'd say just one thing: my wife prefers the Street Glide CVO, and my daughter bought a motorcycle...
It's definitely not a bike for two-up riding. It can help out from time to time, but not for more than a few kilometers, or your passengers are masochists...

I'm in the process of making a 'comfort seat' for my other half to use on the relatively rare occasions she will be riding with me.
I haven't fixed it yet. At the moment it's just photographed resting on top of my rack, so it's too early to be able to establish if it's been a success yet. Time will tell.

I saw this thread and thought I should show something about what i'm doing on this subject, so taken some quick snaps in case it inspires others to try something similar.

The plan i've been working toward all along with this bike was to initially make a sturdy rack/base for either my special homemade top box or soft-bags of various sizes, but then, when needed I could use the base to fix a larger pillion seat pad, that I think will be more comfortable than the stock pillion seat-pad.

For occasional use, it's really a great achievement! Bravo!

It wasn't a huge deal because I had some scrap pieces of plywood laying around and the rack structure is already in use on the bike.
I had an order already in for a new seat on my other bike by a local upholstery shop and I did a sketch and said make me a seat pad like that and I handed him my shaped bit of plywood.....and voila!
I just have to make a fixing solution that makes it easy to remove and fit quickly.

Who knows......maybe my other half will use it more often that I have predicted.....if it's comfortable enough she just might (?)

GF hates it compared to my old Harley. I've added a removable tourpak with a higher back rest and a wider pad to the seat when she's riding with me, but she still won't go on a longer ride with me (>45min). I think it's more the stability than the comfort. She used to be able to almost fall asleep on the back. Now she has to stay stable, and I can tell when she's getting restless.

Don’t if it’s of any relevance but….
A couple of years ago, I had a bit of inheritance, I and T’Wife decided to have a close look at a GT and treat ourselves. Now Madam has scoliosis of the spine and needs back support. The Thunderbird Storm we had at the time, had a bigger back pad off an HD fitted and foot boards.
Got to the Triumph dealership, found the GT. Well she took one look at the seat, backrest, and the foot pegs. Three words “not a hope!” And walked straight out!
I do tend to agree with Idaho on this point, I really feel Triumph are missing out on some serious sales. With a mile munching engine, it is a real shame they’ve decided not to build a cruiser, along the lines of the original R111.

Are you going to include a backrest with the new seat?

Are you going to include a backrest with the new seat?
That's a good question.
I hadn't planned in doing so, when I originally designed the rack frame etc... but it is sturdy enough to be able to support a backrest similar in size/height to the one on the GT.....so......If my other half wants one, she will most likely get one, at some point in time.
